Stand me a beer….
One thing that seems to suit almost any situation is beer. On a hot summer day, watching a football or just hanging out, beer seems to be one of the easiest and most popular drinks and not so fattening as most people think when drunk in moderation.
As a drink produced from grains (mostly barley), beer favors dough based dishes. This is the reason why pizza and beer seem to be a combination that can’t go wrong.
Here you will find some ideas for appetizers that you can easily make at home and avoid the usual pizza order.
Bruschetta with peppers
- 4 slices of bread, preferably white one-day old bread
- 2 bell peppers, preferably yellow and red
- Oregano, according to preference
- Salt, a couple of pinches
- 2 garlic cloves
- 3tbsp olive oil
Dice the peppers. Add some oil to a frying pan and heat well. Finely chop the garlic and add to the pan. Sauté the garlic until light brown and remove from pan. Place the slices of bread in the pan and sauté for about 2 minutes on each side. Remove the slices of bread from the pan and place them in a dish. Add the peppers to the pan and sauté them lightly, until they soften slightly while still remaining al dente. Garnish the bread slices with the cooked peppers, season with some salt and sprinkle with some oregano.
Tip: If you want to make the bruschettas more filling, add a thin slice of provolone cheese or any other spicy, hard cheese you prefer.
