Starting-off the day like a King!
The prevailing view is that the first meal of the day, is also the most important. Recent studies however, are questioning the importance of breakfast.
At the end of the day, however, regardless of what the different studies are saying, each person is following the needs of their own body and… stomach. The truth is that for most people, it is inconceivable to start the day without… energy and a good breakfast.
There are quite a few people who follow the saying “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper”. Without a doubt, people who follow this saying, usually don’t face problems with weight gain, while they provide their body with the necessary energy to enthusiastically start-off the day. In addition, many argue that eating breakfast can prevent any diet offenses throughout the day.
What is the ideal breakfast though? Experts insist that an ideal breakfast should include a variety of foods and nutrients such as carbs, proteins, fats and fibres.
If you prefer a light meal, you can start-off the day with yoghurt, honey and nuts. Alternatively, you can try cottage cheese with honey or cinnamon or even be more daring and add whole-wheat cereal, bananas, dried cranberries and cashews. Especially for people who are working out, a smoothie with almond or coconut milk, oatmeal, banana, cacao, honey and peanut butter is an ideal choice.
If on the other hand you definitely want your breakfast to include white or whole-wheat bread, you should be more daring and skip the “traditional” toppings (toast with honey, jam or ham-cheese toast), combining your bread with avocado or egg, peanut butter with bananas or cottage cheese with honey.
If you have enough time to prepare breakfast for you and your family, you can make delicious pancakes with oats, bananas and honey, getting a lot of energy and limited calories. The Mediterranean omelette with grated feta, tomato, smoked turkey, green pepper and black olives, is the ideal choice for breakfast.
If you on the other hand think that leftover pizza is not such a bad idea, don’t feel bad and give in to your desires without fear. A bowl of cereal and a slice of pizza have the same calories, with the only difference that unlike most cereals (which also have a high sugar content) pizza can keep you full for an entire morning.
