4+1 ways to trick yourself into drinking more water
While it’s your ally during the summer, as the season starts to change remembering to drink water turns into a little bit of a nightmare. What if you’ve tried everything: from reminders on your mobile phone every half hour, using applications that help you “keep a record”, even consuming more salt in the hope that you will get thirsty. No matter how hard you try to reach the right daily levels of adequate water consumption, your efforts always fall short.
Nevertheless, water is so beneficial to the body that it’s worth testing your patience and determination once again. In this last effort of yours, keep in mind the following tips and… keep your fingers crossed.
#1 Use a straw
Supposedly, if you drink water using a straw, you end up drinking more in less time. You’ve tried so many things, so why not give this a shot?
#2 Add flavour
What would you say if you could trick your palate by adding a little flavour to the water? Adding a slice of lemon or lime, or a cube of melon or watermelon, or even 1-2 small strawberries, can make a big difference. Alternatively, you can add fruit or herbal tea to your water, as well as vegetables or spices such as mint. You can also experiment with an orange peel or a sprig of cinnamon.
#3 And yet… it is edible
Did you know there are water-rich foods that can help you reach your recommended daily water consumption? So, start eating more watermelon, celery, lettuce, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, zucchini, radishes and cucumbers.
#4 Dilute it
Another tactic you can try is to dilute everything you drink with water. Whether it’s juice, soft drinks or even alcoholic beverages, add a little water and see the difference.
#5 Always and everywhere
If you have had enough of… reminders, then make sure the water is constantly near you in a prominent position, so that you remember to consume it. Choose a water bottle with a bright colour, able to distract your attention and make a habit of taking it with you wherever you go.
